12/31/11 New Years Eve Powder Pregame at Park & Poke

I saw this place last year at Manitoba, and made it a point to check it out. I've heard it affectionately called Park & Poke by a several people, as well as Jesus Hills. Fresno Ridge is probably the most geographically accurate name. This can be a popular spot as you can ski downhill back to the parking lot. This year the DOT has been plowing a parking area at the gravel pit across the highway. By continuing up Fresno Ridge you can gain access to terrain on the West side of the highway (although we didn't).

The temperature at Granite Creek was reported at -15F, so I decided to try hand-warmers. It was likely in the 5-10 below range as we climbed up, and not too uncomfortable with calm conditions. This was the first time riding with only splitboarders...sweet! The snowpack has been less stable than Turnagain Pass so far, but definitely a spot to explore further when conditions improve.
